Definition:
Under the direction of the Director of Communications, a Dispatcher will be responsible for the deployment and tracking and movement of units on an ongoing basis throughout the day per local System Status Management Plan. They will broadcast orders to crews regarding runs, emergencies and general information.
Dispatchers will operate radio, telephone, or computer equipment relay information or orders to proper individuals or members of management.
In addition, the dispatcher, under Emergency Medical Dispatch protocol, will be required to take caller information, determine the nature of the run request, dispatch runs (emergent and non-emergent) to the crews in an appropriate and timely manner, and record pertinent information.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must possess a high degree of personal integrity and responsibility.
- Currently licensed, certified or registered by the appropriate state agencies.
- Currently certified in Emergency Medical Dispatch by MPDS or other appropriate organization.
- Must have the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, using good judgment.
- Must have the ability to work in a fast paced, hectic, high pressure environment.
- Must have the ability to simultaneously manage multiple activities without error.
- Must have superior spatial orientation ability in order to be able to read and interpret maps.
- Must have good computer skills and be able to type at least 30 words per minute.
- Must have the ability to work efficiently and interact in a constructive and professional manner with other employees, public safety personnel and medical staff.
- Must have the ability to interact effectively and professionally with patients, customers, clients, family members, bystanders, and the general public in such a manner as to reflect positively on the company.
- Must demonstrate a level of skill and ability consistent with the provision of quality customer care.
- Prefer previous or current certification as Emergency Medical Technician.
Physical Requirements:

Reports To:
Dispatch Supervisor or Communications Director as appropriate for all operational activities.
Specific Duties:
- Demonstrates complete knowledge, understanding and compliance of company policies and procedures.
- Ensures that Computer Aided Dispatch computer console, phone system, radio system and all equipment is ready for use at the beginning of each shift.
- Ensures security of buildings, Dispatch Center and all other company property.
- Performs daily inspections of their work area and of the Dispatch Center for cleanliness. Then performs the appropriate housekeeping duties to ensure their work area is clean, free from clutter and sanitary at all times.
- Maintains appropriate communications with company units, managers, support staff, receiving healthcare facilities and other agencies via radio, data link, pager or cell phone as required.
- Is knowledgeable as to local geography to include location of hospitals, public venues as well as local streets and highway systems.
- Deploys, tracks and moves units on an ongoing basis throughout the day per local System Status Posting Plan.
- Responds to all calls for service promptly and accurately answering incoming phone calls for service per Emergency Medical Dispatch and company procedure as required.
- Utilizes appropriate Emergency Medical Dispatch and company procedure to accurately determine the exact nature of each call giving pre arrival instructions to callers per appropriate emergency medical dispatch and company procedure.
- Contacts and dispatches by radio, pager or MDT the most appropriate unit each request for service.
- Obtains complete intake information from all callers and inputs information received into Computer Aided Dispatch system.
- Communicates and coordinates with Field Supervisors, Operations Managers and other management and support staff to ensure the proper number of fully equipped and staffed vehicles are available to fulfill local System Status Plan on a daily basis.
- Acts at all times in the best interests of high quality patient care, in the best interest of the patient, and in such a manner to reflect credibly on the company and the professional reputation of the Dispatcher.
- Acts at all times with the safety of field crews he/she is dispatching in mind, as well as the safety of the patient, other EMS personnel, bystanders, and any other public safety personnel present at scene.
- Provides appropriate pre arrival instructions per appropriate emergency medical dispatch and company procedure.
- Maintains security and privacy of all company and patient information at all times in accordance HIPPA and all other local, state and federal regulations.
- Accepts responsibility for recertification as an EMD and for other required license’s and certifications as required by company, local, regional, and state policies, regulations or laws.
- Reports to assigned shifts on time, properly groomed in uniform and on time unless the proper notification has been made. Remains on-duty and in proper uniform until properly relieved.
- At all times sets an example of professionalism and leadership for others to follow. Places patient care excellence and safety above all else.

EMPLOYEES SUPERVISED: All ambulance and/or wheelchair field operations staff on duty during assigned shift and/or operational area.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: Directly responsible for the actions of all ambulance and/or wheelchair operations staff on their assigned shifts and have discretionary authority, within the bounds of the law and Medshore Ambulance Service policies and procedures, to lead any on-duty operations personnel.
The Assistant Operations Supervisor coordinates all phases of operations within their task area for Medshore Ambulance Service in cooperation with the Operations Manager and/or Operations Supervisor. He / She must be familiar with local, state, federal laws and regulations applicable to the operations of ambulance and/or wheelchair services. He / She maintains contacts with local and state agencies so as to foster cooperation and good public relations. He / She is responsible for the efficient operations of the company and is to insure the highest possible quality of care, transportation, and safety of the patients being treated and transported by the crews providing services.
The goal of the Assistant Operations Supervisor is to produce high - quality unit hours at a reasonable cost per unit hour, and to fulfill as closely as possible the coverage requirements of the Operations Manager.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
➢ Oversees task performance of those assigned and makes or approves all decisions requiring interpretation of service delivery and company policies.
➢ Monitors the performance of crewmembers and peers, corrects errors as necessary, and provides training and feedback.
➢ Evaluates performance of crewmembers and peers and submits written and verbal reports as requested or required. They can perform audit and inspection duties usually done by Field Supervisor, i.e., check reports, issue supplies, sign off manifest, inspect vehicles & stations, etc.
➢ As a management representative in the field, s/he has the duty to advise, assist or offer service to other co-workers and positions with authority to influence the decisions made by peers and take corrective action when necessary. In this capacity s/he serves as an advisor on company policies and procedures. S/he has limited disciplinary authority while working in the field and may recommend and issue disciplinary action after consultation with the respective Operations Manager and/or Senior Management.
➢ Represents the Company to outside organizations, agencies, facilities, and at special events as assigned.
➢ Must attend Operations Staff Meetings and other specified meetings required by the Operations and the Senior Management team, when required.
➢ Serves as a leader and role-model when responding to emergency and non-emergency calls and delivers high quality patient care and customer service within the prescribed scope of practice, established protocols, and company policies.
➢ Ensures completion of station duties and assist the Operations manager and/or Operations
Supervisor with assigned tasks.
➢ Assists the Human Resource Department and Education/CQI Coordinator in orientation and other continuing education programs.
PHYSICAL STRENGTH REQUIRED:
1. Must be able to lift a minimum of 220 pounds (150 lb. patient and approximately 75 lb. stretcher)
with assistance from one other qualified individual.
2. Must be able to lift a minimum of 100 pounds at waist high level and carry a distance of 100 yards.
3. Must be able to lift and move a 75 lb. ambulance stretcher with the help of one qualified individual.
4. Must be able to lift a 175 lb. patient (in various positions, i.e., while lying on the floor, the bed, in an automobile, etc.) with the help of one qualified individual onto a stretcher.
5. Must be able to carry a monitor/defibrillator in one hand and an ALS trauma kit in the other for a distance of 100 yards.
6. Due to the unpredictability of this type of organization, it is not always possible to guarantee meal and/or break periods. Therefore, this position must have no physical condition which would prohibit him/her from working 12 hours without a meal or break.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
1. Must be adaptive to work in all types of weather conditions, including, but not limited to, rain, snow, heat, etc.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
Directly responsible for the actions of all ambulance/wheelchair operations staff on their assigned shifts and have discretionary authority, within the bounds of the law and Medshore Ambulance Service policies and procedures, to lead any on-duty operations personnel.
The Operations Supervisor coordinates all phases of operations within their task area for Medshore Ambulance Service in cooperation with the Operations Manager. He / She must be familiar with local, state, federal laws and regulations applicable to the operations of ambulance services. He / She maintains contacts with local and state agencies so as to foster cooperation and good public relations. He / She is responsible for the efficient operations of the company and is to insure the highest possible quality of care, and safety of the patients being treated and transported by the crews providing services.
The goal of the Operations Supervisor is to produce high - quality unit hours at a reasonable cost per unit hour, and to fulfill as closely as possible the coverage requirements of the Operations Manager.
A “high quality unit hour” may be summarized as a clinically - competent, neat - appearing, well motivated crew conducting themselves at all times in a safe, friendly, caring, and professional manner, while working with high quality, reliable, clean, and well maintained equipment under the direction of the System Status Controller for one hour.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Current South Carolina and/or Appropriate State Driver’s License
Current South Carolina State and/or National Registered Certification as EMT/EMT-I/ Paramedic.
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification- BCLS.
Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification -ACLS (Paramedic Only)

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Coordinate and supervise the activities of any personnel assigned to them.
Ensure that assigned personnel are fully informed of company policies, local procedures and other information pertinent to operations.
Review and act upon, as necessary, all incidents, accident, deviation/exception, and other reports forwarded from the field or Control Center. Checks reports for accuracy, completeness, and competence.
Keep themselves apprised of events in the field affecting Medshore Ambulance Service, including accidents, injuries, breaches of policy, inter-agency relations, morale, newsworthy events and superior/poor performance by field personnel.
Respond to ambulance/wheelchair calls as needed. Routinely responds to ambulance calls where unusual or extraordinary circumstances exist.
Ensure proper performance of vehicles and equipment by arranging repairs and preventative maintenance (in the absence of designated maintenance personnel).
Attend meetings and maintain contacts with allied agencies at the direction of the Operations Manager, and/or Senior Management.
Periodically inspect field personnel, quarters, and units to ensure conformity with Medshore Ambulance Service standards.
Make work assignments with available personnel. Monitor and modify current schedule by staffing to meet the needs of the company.
Work cooperatively with the SSC to ensure that problem or complicated calls are handled properly.
Attend continuing education programs as needed and required.
Assist the Human Resources and Education/CQI Coordinator in orientation and other continuing education programs.
Participate in employee performance appraisals as directed.
Perform corollary duties, within reason, at the direction of superiors.
Give disciplinary action up to a Class II.
